Last-Minute Rush → Unexpected Win! π―
Hey everyone! π
I just had to share this crazy, unexpected journey that’s been full of challenges, late nights, and, surprisingly, an incredible win! A few days ago, if you had asked me if I had a shot at being selected for the Google Girl Hackathon 2025 Semi-Finalist, I would have laughed and probably said, “Not a chance!” I’ve been through my fair share of hackathons, and after facing rejection multiple times, I honestly didn’t think this opportunity would come my way. But, well… life had different plans, and here I am today with a story to tell! π
The Journey Begins
It all started with the resume shortlisting. Being selected from thousands of talented candidates was such a huge moment for me. Honestly, just making it through felt like a massive win in itself! It gave me the motivation to push forward and give my absolute best in this journey.
The Kickoff Meet & Learning Cohort π‘
Then came the Kickoff Meet & Learning Cohort. Oh wow, this was truly a game-changer! I had the opportunity to connect with industry experts, dive into cutting-edge technologies, and get hands-on experience with tools I had only heard about. This was where the problem statement was revealed, and I was both excited and intimidated. But mostly excited, because it felt like a once-in-a-lifetime chance.
The Online Challenge (And Mid-Term Madness!) π
Now, here’s where the real challenge started. The online challenge had me balancing multiple things at once. On top of preparing for the hackathon, I had mid-term exams coming up and even a quiz from IITM to tackle. As a first-year student in Silicon Engineering and a total beginner in this field, it felt like everything was piling up at once. I had to squeeze in study sessions for the quiz, and that meant I was preparing right after college ended, around 5:30 PM.But, of course, I was determined. It felt like an uphill battle, but I powered through, knowing that this challenge was worth it. It wasn’t easy, but I kept reminding myself that sometimes you just have to take the plunge. Little did I know that the most intense part of the journey was yet to come!
The Rush to the Family Function ππ¨
In the midst of all this, I had to rush off to a family function. Yes, you read that right! A family event while juggling my exams and hackathon tasks. But here's where things took an unexpected turn: I ended up taking the online quiz while stuck in traffic on the way to the function! ππ¨ Crazy, right? I honestly didn’t expect much. I was just trying to get through it all without losing my mind. But guess what? The very next day, I received an email saying I had been selected! π I couldn’t believe it! After everything I had been juggling, it felt like such a sweet victory.
The Ideation Round: Bringing My Project to Life π§
Once selected, it was time for the Ideation Round. I worked hard on my project called DeepLogic AI: AI-Based Combinational Logic Depth Prediction. Now, let me tell you, this project was a real game-changer. Timing analysis in digital design is crucial, but the traditional synthesis methods are slow and can delay project timelines. I developed an AI-powered solution that predicts the combinational logic depth of signals in RTL code before synthesis. This method enables designers to spot potential timing violations early, saving tons of time and effort.I used Yosys to extract key features like fan-in, fan-out, gate count, and logic depth. Then, I trained a Random Forest/XGBoost model to predict the logic depth more efficiently. The AI-driven approach significantly reduces computation time compared to full synthesis and can enhance productivity in design processes. π‘
Being recognized for my work in the Ideation Round felt amazing, and receiving a bottle as a prize was just the cherry on top! π It was a small win, but it meant so much to me. Though I didn’t make it to the Grand Finale, the entire experience was beyond rewarding.
What I Learned from This Journey π
This journey taught me something valuable: You don’t always have to feel 100% ready to take on a challenge. Sometimes, you just have to go for it. The experience wasn’t about winning the grand prize; it was about growing, learning, and pushing my limits in ways I never thought possible. Even when it seemed like everything was against me, I kept going. And honestly, that’s where the real win lies.
“Success is not measured by one single victory; it’s the countless little wins and lessons that shape us.”
I’m so grateful for this journey and all that I’ve learned along the way. From solving math problems in the middle of my exams to presenting an AI-based solution that could transform digital design workflows, it’s been an unforgettable rollercoaster ride.
Tips for Newcomers: How to Navigate the Hackathon Hustle π
If you’re a newcomer thinking of entering a hackathon or any big competition, here are some tips that helped me along the way:
-
Stay Organized: Juggling between exams, projects, and personal commitments can be overwhelming. The key is staying organized and managing your time effectively.
-
Don’t Wait for the Perfect Moment: You might never feel fully ready. But sometimes, just taking that leap is all you need to get started.
-
Learn to Prioritize: There will be times when things pile up, and you’ll need to decide what deserves your immediate attention. Don’t overburden yourself—prioritize!
-
Don’t Be Afraid to Ask for Help: Whether it’s from mentors, teammates, or experts, don’t hesitate to ask for help when you need it. You’ll be surprised at how much you can learn.
-
Celebrate the Small Wins: Even if you don’t win the grand prize, every little achievement along the way is worth celebrating. Trust me, it all adds up!
A Special Shoutout ππ
Lastly, a huge thank you to Google for giving me the chance to be a part of this incredible journey. The opportunity, the inspiring messages, and the thoughtful gift (seriously, that water bottle is so cool!) have made all the hard work worth it.
So, here’s to embracing the hustle, learning from the challenges, and celebrating every step of the journey. If I can do it, so can you! Keep going, and who knows what doors might open for you! π
Until next time,
Best Regards
